Volunteering

Volunteers at RFS are the beating heart of the charity. They work in the warehouse looking after customers, reupholstering saggy chairs and getting creative with paint finishes, turning that battered old table from plain old shabby to shabby chic.

And in our repair shop (we did it first, BBC!) volunteers will find a way to fix that wonky hinge or cracked table top, saving more items from a one-way ticket to the tip.

Volunteer roles:

  • Serving customers and organising the warehouse
  • Admin
  • Fixing, painting and upholstering furniture
  • Social media and marketing

It’s a great way to use old skills, learn new skills and be part of a friendly and welcoming team.  Maybe you’ve been out of the labour market and want to get some confidence back or perhaps you’ve retired and like a bit of DIY, whatever the reason, we’d love to hear from you! Please email admin@rfsonline.co.uk or call us on 0208 755 4665.

“I’ve always been a hobby woodworker, so RFS seemed the perfect place to volunteer. It provides a wonderful contrast to my old office day job.”

Before I joined RFS I had pretty much no friends, no social contact and no purpose. All changed now. RFS pretty much changed my life.

What I get from volunteering is knowing that I am stopping furniture from going to landfill, I also enjoy watching people find an item in the showroom that they want –  knowing that I helped to put it there, even if I only washed it down.
