If you come to us with a grant you also automatically get a 25% discount. Find out more here or contact our office.

Yes, we give you a ‘coupon code’ which you put in the ‘apply coupon’ box when you checkout and it deducts your discount.

Donations

If you’re wanting to donate soft furnishings, like sofas and chairs, you need to double check that it has a fire safety label attached. If it doesn’t have one of these, sadly we are unable to accept the item. By law, sofas, arm chairs and soft furnishings must have an attached UK fire safety label.

This article from the Reuse Network explains a little more about why fire labels are so important: https://reuse-network.org.uk/why-are-fire-labels-important/

Yes, we can take small electricals like food mixers or toasters, but we don’t accept appliances or other large electrical items.

You can also easily recycle your unwanted small electrical items at 20 new community recycling banks that Richmond Borough Council have installed, or with your weekly kerbside mixed recycling collection. Visit the Richmond Borough Council’s Recycling Webpage to find your nearest bank, what can/cannot be recycled and local ways to donate, repair or exchange items in a good condition.

We collect donations for free. This means that you don’t have to worry about squeezing the sofa into the mini. . . though we would be interested to know how many sofas do fit into a mini.

Please allow some time for us to fit collections into our schedule. We have an awesome van team who are out 5 days a week, but there is only one van.

To arrange a furniture donation collection, please visit https://donatefurniture.rfsonline.co.uk.

If you need help, we are still available in person or via phone and email.

Yes, but it’s best to check with us first. We may say no to items depending on their condition and our current stock levels – sometimes we just don’t have space! Please visit https://donatefurniture.rfsonline.co.uk to check if it is something that we need and want, and have space available to store.

Appliances

No, we don’t install appliances. Age UK Richmond offers a discounted handyperson service for those over 65, unpaid carers and those with long term disabilities.

No, we can’t take away appliances, but Richmond Council offers a bulky waste collection service London Borough of Richmond Upon Thames. There is a fee, but it is discounted for over 60s, with some free collections for low income residents.

All large appliances come with a 12-month guarantee. Smaller appliances, such as microwaves, come with a 6-month guarantee.

Deliveries

We deliver all across the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. We have been known to deliver to neighbouring areas, and further afield. Please see our map of delivery areas and charges. If your area is not listed or you have further questions, please do contact us to discuss further.

We do charge for delivery (and it isn’t discounted). We have a variable delivery charge, depending on distance. Please see our map of delivery areas and charges. If your area is not listed or you have further questions, please do contact us to discuss further.

We try to put items where you want them, but, sometimes, if something is very large and heavy it can only be delivered to the ground floor. Our delivery team are amazing, but they are only human! Please also take into account what the doorway and stairwell measurements are when you are considering a large piece of furniture. Nobody wants an improvised rendition of that famous ‘Friends’ scene… ‘PIVOT!’ or to have to take the saw to that sofa.

Gift Aid

If you are a UK income tax payer, any donation (cash or goods) you make to a charity is exempt from tax – Gift Aid allows charities to claim that tax back on the donor’s behalf. This means that charities can earn an extra 25%. For example, if we sell a chair for £10, we can get another £2.50 by claiming the Gift Aid.

Anyone who pays UK income tax.

We just need your name, address (as it’s known to HMRC) and email so that we can tell you about the amount we will claim, and of course, we need your permission to do so.

Richmond Furniture Scheme will contact you to advise when we are about to make a claim from HMRC. This gives you information about how much we are claiming and also allows you 21 days to contact us in case your circumstances have changed or you have changed your mind.

When we make a claim, we write to you in advance. Handy if you forgot to tell us about a change. We can deactivate Gift Aid on your donation, if you wish.

Have a question that is not covered here?

We have tried to include all the questions we get asked, but we might have missed something. We don’t mind answering your questions and want your Richmond Furniture Scheme experience to be a positive one, so please do get in touch, in person, via phone or email if there is something you need to know.

We get a broad range of questions from where to get help if you are struggling with housing and keeping your head above water, to mental health support and community support, right through to queries about upcycling, upholstery and recycling.

Whatever the question, we are always happy to try and help, and if we don’t know the answer, there is usually someone in our network who does.
